The Madara Rider or Madara Horseman is an early medieval large rock relief carved on the Madara Plateau, near the village of Madara. It is included in the list UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1979. It is the only relief of its kind, having no parallel in Europe.
Madara was the principal sacred place of the First Bulgarian Empire before Bulgaria’s conversion to Christianity in the 9th century. It is very special, mystical and full of history place in Bulgaria. The beautiful natural surroundings, towering cliffs, and plentiful water bring people here from the dawn of history.
