What You'll Do
Spend a day exploring the 17th-Century Troyan Monastery that sits within the surrounding splendor of the Balkan Mountains and the Cherni Osam River. See the legendary Three-Handed Virgin before journeying to Oreshak to visit the Museum of Folk Crafts.
What to Expect
Discover one of Bulgaria's largest monasteries in the picturesque mountain setting of Troyan, not far from the village of Oreshak, where your tour will conclude with a visit to its Museum of Folk Crafts.
According to the monastery's chronicles, the building was established in the year 1600 by a hermit who had arrived in the mountains after the fall of the Second Bulgarian Empire. After gaining the respect and support of the local people, who came to him for prayers and advice, the initial hut that had been built as his home was expanded into a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
Situated in the Balkan Mountains, on the bank of the Cherni Osam River, visit one of the country's most beautiful locations to discover the monastery and its purportedly miraculous icon – The Three-Handed Virgin.
